b maXX 5100 - Rectifier and regenerative feedback units


The energy costs of electrical drives often account for more than 90 percent of their total life cycle costs. Efficient power supply units that are also regenerative help to reduce the total costs of ownership.

The b maXX 5100 rectifier and regenerative feedback units supply the connected axis modules with power via the DC link and feed sinusoidal braking energy back into the system.

The b maXX 5100 units are seamlessly integrated into Baumüller’s b maXX automation and drive solution. By realizing 3 different sizes over a range from 36 kW to 200 kW, the modularity and flexibility user advantages of the b maXX series are implemented consistently. System consistency is implemented not only by adopting the housing technology of the b maXX 5100 in the existing b maXX ProDrive operating software but also by integrating its parameterization.

Energy-efficient feedback of braking energy into the power supply

Considering the energy costs, there are decisive savings opportunities for the user over the service life of the machine. Regenerative systems help to reduce energy consumption by not converting the braking energy into heat via a ballast resistor, but instead feeding it back into the system — which also benefits the environment.

Cooling methods

The b maXX 5100 devices are available with standard air cooling, cold plate and push-through water technology cooling methods. The choice of cooling method depends on the b maXX 5300 or b maXX 6300 axis units.

DC link capacitance module: Energy and cost savings for dynamic applications

With the DC link capacitance unit, the braking energy of dynamic applications can be temporarily stored and used for subsequent acceleration. Can be used with devices of the b maXX 5000 and 6000 converter generation.

The ProDrive parameterization tool gives users of Baumüller servo drives a comprehensive software solution that does much more than a mere commissioning tool. In particular, the extensive options for vibration analysis and the comprehensive self-optimization functions accelerate the time-to-market and allow optimal and efficient device parameterization.
