Power supply units for high outputs

The b maXX 5000 power supply unit functions as a system rectifier and supplies the connected axis modules with power via the DC link. By realizing 3 different installation sizes over a power range of 5 kW to 200 kW, the user advantages of modularity and flexibility of the b maXX series are consistently implemented. The power supply units achieve peak outputs between 7.5 and 300 kW. Outputs up to 300 kW are ideal for dynamic movements for which high peak outputs are needed short-term.

The required number of single and double-axis modules is arranged side-by-side with the b maXX 5000 power supply unit via an integrated drive connect system. This enables individual modules to be removed or added easily without having to detach the entire drive system. The number of axis units possible depends on the connected load of the power supply unit’s DC link.

Cooling methods

The b maXX 5000 devices are available with standard air cooling, cold plate and push-through water technology cooling methods. The choice of cooling method depends on the b maXX 5300 or b maXX 6300 axis units.

Integrated safety functions in the power supply unit reduces installation work

modular servo controller generation b maXX 5000Baumüller offers a safety solution for the b maXX 5000 in which the electric motors are not shutdown locally in the individual motor converters, but centrally with an STO module (Safe Torque Off) integrated in the power supply unit. This reduces the installation work and wiring required for the drive system, which leads to reduced manufacturing costs.

The new safety concept meets SIL 2 safety requirements to IEC 61508 or PLd, category 3 to EN ISO 13849-1 and can be used for all applications in which the power supply unit and the axis units require the same STO conditions.

Safety in the drive

Pluggable safety modules are also offered for the b maXX 5300 and b maXX 5500 devices, which are an important component of an extensive, drive-integrated safety concept, with which the requirements of the Machinery Directive are met. Depending on the application, machine builders can quickly and flexibly adapt the drive to meet the requirements.

Energy and cost savings for dynamic applications

With the DC link capacitance unit, the braking energy for dynamic applications can be temporarily stored and used for the subsequent acceleration. Can be used with devices of the b maXX 5000 and 6000 converter generation.
