Partnership brings real added value: When customers and end users count on Baumüller
Phytopharmaceuticals, i.e., herbal medicines, contain active ingredients derived from plants or plant parts. The Dr. Willmar Schwabe Group has made it its mission to manufacture herbal medicines that fundamentally meet the same high requirements as chemically synthesized medicines. This includes both controlled studies and the consistently high quality of the produced medication.
To make this possible, the machines at the production site in Karlsruhe must run reliably and be precisely tuned – from the mechanics to the electric drive.
Fette Compacting supplies pharmaceutical companies worldwide with high-performance tablet presses and relies on drive technology from Baumüller. The machinery at Dr. Willmar Schwabe also consists of Fette Compacting tablet presses from various generations. Every year, these high-performance machines produce over 3 billion tablets here. This performance is made possible by trust-based communication, fast coordination, and strong cooperation between Fette Compacting, Dr. Willmar Schwabe, and Baumüller.
The reliability and precision of the systems depend significantly on the electric drive system. Our drives ensure that Dr. Willmar Schwabe can produce with constant product quality. System maintenance is handled by our customer Fette Compacting, who supports Dr. Willmar Schwabe with semi-annual maintenance and calibrations. “The electric drives are an essential part of our maintenance module,” explains Carsten Schulz, Group Leader Training at Fette Compacting. “If things go beyond basic functions, we refer to the experts at Baumüller.” This is how we ensure that the production process runs optimally at all times.

Expert training
To strengthen on-site competence, employees from Dr. Willmar Schwabe were guests at our Baumüller Academy at the headquarters in Nuremberg. In practical training sessions, they learned to better understand the electric drives and thus react even more specifically to production requirements.
“So far, the drives have operated without any issues whatsoever,” says Christian Bott, Electrical Maintenance Technician at Dr. Willmar Schwabe. “The special training at Baumüller contributed greatly to improving my understanding of the drives and the software.”

20 years of the Baumüller Academy
Competence pays off when it comes to the intricacies of electric drive technology and automation. That is why the Baumüller Academy has been training employees, machine builders, and end users for over 20 years. In addition to product training, the Academy offers events on industry-specific solutions and systems, including their sizing, optimization, and commissioning. Furthermore, users can be trained in the use of Baumüller software, such as the Baumüller simulation tool ProSimulation, the sizing software sizemaXX, or the engineering framework ProMaster. Numerous companies regularly use the Baumüller Academy’s offerings to have both new and experienced employees trained in the state of the art.
Added value through partnership
The interaction between Fette Compacting, Dr. Willmar Schwabe, and Baumüller shows how modern industrial partnerships can function and bring success. Each partner contributes their strengths, thereby enabling a smooth, efficient, and reliable production process.
