Baumüller continues to expand its solutions and software portfolio with the objective of raising the applications of its customers to the next level. To this end, at the SPS 2024 in Nuremberg, Baumüller will be presenting numerous hardware and software solutions that contribute to the trend topics of productivity, energy efficiency, IoT and time-to-market. You will find the Baumüller Group in Hall 1 at Stand 560 from November 12 thru 14, 2024.

Increase performance and implement IoT with Drive Intelligence

Increased performance and productivity: In the b maXX 6000 servo drives, the drive-integrated b maXX PLC di control unit handles scalable control tasks through to high-performance, synchronous multi-axis applications.

Baumüller offers its customers two drive-integrated platforms to further increase the productivity of machines: The b maXX softdrivePLC with a cycle time of ≥62.5 μs and the new b maXX PLC di with a cycle time of ≥125 μs. In this way, critical processes or individual motion control functions can be easily transferred from the control to the drive. This increases the machine performance and productivity significantly. IoT solutions are significantly easier to realize with Drive Intelligence. Numerous preconfigured, immediately usable software modules are available for both platforms.

New runtime environment developed in-house

When it comes to control technology, Baumüller relies on open systems and simplified engineering: With a new IEC 61131 runtime environment, developed in-house, Baumüller offers a platform that supports current standards such as high-level language programming and IoT connectivity. A framework is installed for the visualization, with which the current trend topics of low / no code can be realized, e.g., via Node-RED. Use of state-of-the-art script languages also enable AI systems to be mapped. In this way, Baumüller’s motion control experts would like its customers to benefit even more from its specific know-how for highly dynamic and precise drive and automation systems.

Compact and energy-efficient motors

For many years, Baumüller has offered an extensive portfolio of liquid-cooled motors. The advantage is their enormous power density that is a positive aspect, for example, for energy-efficient, dynamic and compact machines.

This portfolio is now being further expanded: The new DST3 torque motor continues the series’ success story and offers customers higher power density and improved dynamism with optimum smooth running. This enables reduced space requirements, increased productivity, maximum precision, and weight savings and further optimization of the carbon footprint. With the DS4, a new generation of the performance-optimized main drives is presented. The motor is significantly more compact and offers an extended nominal torque range. The DSC2 series is also extended with additional types. The new motor developments are ideally suitable for all industries.

Digital twin for faster time-to-market

Most complex application require more than standard design software can offer: The best possible system can only be designed if the interaction of mechanics, machine cycle and the drive components are considered. The solution: ProSimulation simulation software. With the digital twin generated there, Baumüller can design an optimum drive system for the customers’ specific requirements in the shortest possible time and test it virtually.

The drive specialist offers its customers system advice as a service. With the help of ProSimulation, this enables machines to be modeled individually, and to deduce optimization potential with the customer.

Highest performance and maximum scalability

The new b maXX 6000 servo controller generation stands for more performance and maximum scalability. For example, the new developed safety functions, which can shorten the cycle times of machines still further, ensure more performance. The b maXX 6000 devices have maximum scalability due to numerous hardware and software options, and can therefore be even better adapted to the respective application requirements.

For the b maXX 6500 mono units, the dimensions have been reduced significantly and the power density increased considerably. The peak power of the b maXX 6500 devices has been increased substantially. In many applications, this enables the use of a smaller size and thus further optimization of space requirements in the control cabinet and costs.

More flexibility in cooperation

Complex drive systems require very close cooperation: Baumüller advises and assists its customers during the first steps of the component selection through to the commissioning of the machine and therefore offers more than classic drive manufacturers. The focus is on the customers’ requirements. Together with its customers, Baumüller would like to advise on the design and implementation of the best solution, and is interested in long-term partnerships. Alongside a broad-based product portfolio, Baumüller’s drive and automation experts offer deep industry and application know-how, simple as well as complex training courses for technicians, service employees and users, and numerous engineering services and the possibility of making design adjustment specially for the customer’s specific use case.
