Flexibility with a new automation platform

Proprietary automation platform for maximum flexibility, performance, and future viability

At SPS 2026, Baumüller is presenting an end-to-end automation platform for centralized and decentralized control architectures, featuring a new version of ProMaster and a proprietary runtime environment. With the new runtime environment and the new ProMaster engineering system, Baumüller is focusing on a proprietary, future-oriented control platform. The shared software foundation forms the basis for the drive-integrated b maXX drivePLC and future control platforms.

Open, Linux-based platform

The new runtime environment is based on Linux and was developed to be processor-independent. The open architecture enables the integration of additional applications and lays the foundation for future expansions and modern engineering concepts.
The platform supports the integration of AI functions for process optimization, equipment condition monitoring, and real-time data analysis. Combined with the b maXX drivePLC and the servo drives of the b maXX 6000 family, new possibilities emerge for smart monitoring and predictive maintenance. The runtime environment is fully compliant with IEC 61131-3 and supports standardized programming methods for industrial automation. Comprehensive PLCopen-compliant motion control libraries enable the simple and standardized implementation of motion functions.

newly developed linux-based runtime environmentBaumüller relies on Linux for its newly developed runtime environment, ensuring maximum openness for integration with third-party systems and complete flexibility in the implementation of customer-specific projects.

Modern software development for machine construction

With ProMaster, users have access to a modern development environment for project planning, programming, commissioning, and diagnostics. The platform supports object-oriented programming, modular software architectures, and high-level programming languages such as C++. Existing templates, machine modules, and PLCopen-compliant motion control libraries can continue to be used. Automated test routines enable early error detection and increase software quality. This protects existing software investments and shortens development times.

By opting for a proprietary automation platform and expanding ProMaster’s capabilities, Baumüller creates a scalable software base for intelligent servo drives and centralized machine controllers. AI readiness and the consideration of current cybersecurity requirements make the platform a future-proof foundation for the next generation of intelligent automation solutions.
